As a microbiologist, I am interested in understanding how unicellular organisms like bacteria strategize to cope with internal or environmental stresses. Combining quantitative fluorescence imaging with microfluidic techniques, my current research in the Austin lab focuses on determining how bacteria develop antibiotic resistance and how they can benefit from multicellular cooperation to optimize population survival.
